How the dates are worked out
The tool schedules the network first — each task starts as soon as everything it depends on has finished — and only then maps day numbers onto the calendar.
Durations are counted in WORKING days. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped, so a five-day task starting on a Thursday finishes the following Wednesday rather than the Monday.
⚠️ Public holidays are not applied. Malaysia’s are partly federal and partly state, several move with the lunar and Islamic calendars, and some are declared at short notice. A built-in list would be quietly wrong for most users, which is worse than an honest gap — add them into your durations, or read the finish date as the best case.
Float is shown per task. A task marked critical has none: it starts as late as it can afford to and any slippage moves the finish date with it.
Why the date on the plan is rarely the date that happens
Most of the gap is estimating rather than sequencing. Effort gets recorded as duration — "three days of work" becomes three days on the plan — when the person doing it also has a job, and three days of effort takes a fortnight of calendar.
Approvals are missing from most plans. They have real, knowable durations that your own history can supply, and a schedule without them is not a schedule so much as a wish with dates attached.
The handover tail is underestimated almost universally. The gap between technically finished and actually usable — documentation, training, sign-off, the snag list — sits at the end, where there is no float left to absorb it.
And resource collisions are invisible in a network. Two tasks with plenty of float can still queue behind each other if the same person has to do both, and the arithmetic here will not catch that.

›Does this account for public holidays?
No, and that is deliberate. Weekends are excluded; holidays are not.
Malaysian holidays are partly federal and partly state, several move with the lunar and Islamic calendars, and some are gazetted at short notice. Building in a fixed list would be wrong for most users without them noticing, so the finish date here is a best case — add holidays into your durations.
›What is the difference between this and the critical path calculator?
The same engine, a different question. The critical path tool answers which tasks govern the duration, in day numbers. This one answers what date you actually finish, against a working-day calendar.
Use the critical path view when negotiating scope and sequence; use this one when committing to a date.
›Can I set a fixed deadline and work backwards?
Not directly — this schedules forwards from a start date. Working backwards is a different calculation and is usually better done by adjusting the start date until the finish lands where you need it.
If the required finish is earlier than the earliest possible finish, no amount of backwards scheduling fixes that, and the honest answer is a scope or resourcing conversation.
›Why do some tasks show no dates?
They could not be scheduled, which almost always means a circular dependency or a predecessor ID that does not match any task.
Check the depends-on column against the IDs. They are matched case-insensitively and may be separated by commas or spaces.
